Imagine R.Kelly riffing Keyshia’s name for 20 seconds. So basically we’ll get a combination of both that will blow us away. Or he’ll sing with the heartbreak, wailing back and forth with Keyshia as our ears rejoice and hearts break.īut second single ‘Next Time (Won’t Give My Heart Away)’ is a heartbreaker. A true #feminist, understanding that struggle and standing up for what is right. R.Kelly will not only be her shoulder to cry on, but her supporter. We could be getting heartbreak Keyshia, which is the type of Keyshia that makes you so sad you wish you never knew what love was. Kelly has the voice and the riff’s to give Keyshia a good old revenge song.īut first single ‘Rick James’ is already serving that up. With R.Kelly that could be a massive chorus. This means that angry Keyshia is back, which means the songs are about to get real and we should be expecting some more songs about wishing she cheated, slapping someone, and being a grade-a boss. #Studio wit Kellz #WhenAWomansFedUp type s–t #Music What are you suppose to do when two of the best R&B artists meet up in the studio and you have nothing but a picture to imagine the greatness? Start digging for clues, that’s what.Īlong with the photo Keyshia tweeted this: This is a potential ‘Trapped in the Closet: Chapters 1-12’/’I Should’ve Cheated’ type of magic going on. This is a potential ‘I Believe I Can Fly’/’Heaven Sent’ collaboration. Kelly are pictured together in a studio with Keyshia sending out the love and R.Kelly advertising for cigars. We’ve heard it before. This past week Keyshia Cole decided to post a picture on twitter that literally contained 1,000 words/stan thoughts. It’s fine as-is, but we know she can do much better. That’s the trouble with Point of No Return. We know she can do better – we’ve heard it before. Serving as sequel to one of Keyshia’s signature songs, it’s a continuation of the original’s theme of heartbreak – but even with a choir backing her, Keyshia doesn’t convey the original’s passion. Tracklist with lyrics of the album JUST LIKE YOU 2007 of Keyshia Cole: Let It Go - Didnt I Tell You - Fallin Out - Give Me More - I Remember - Shoulda. “Remember (Part 2)” is probably the most telling track on the entire album. She was previously married to Daniel Gibson. She is an actress and composer, known for Mission: Impossible III (2006), Step Up (2006) and Coach Carter (2005). Keyshia Cole was born on Octoin Oakland, California, USA as Keyshia Myeshia Johnson. DJ Mustard’s spaced-out “She,” where Keyshia oddly tries to seduce a woman, and the libido-laced midtempo burner “Believer” stand out amongst the clutter. Keyshia Cole, Soundtrack: Mission: Impossible III. The album does regain a little momentum during its second half. At least scream ON BEAT next time, homie. And speaking of guests, Future Vandross remains undefeated in ruining perfectly good songs on the duet “Love Letter.” His contribution is just screaming “F EVERYTHANG ELSE” over and over. Now that Rick Rawse is dieting, I guess Chainz is stepping up his dinner metaphors.
Guest 2 Chainz does nothing but talk about eating lobster and cereal so he’s no help. She spends “N.L.U.” cussing out a “n***a like you” but again, there’s no fire. The same goes for the first single “Next Time (Won’t Give My Heart Away)” – Keyshia usually excels in the realm of heartbreak this time she just sounds tired. “Somebody better call the paramedics, because I’m feeling kinda crazy right now,” Keyshia croons on “Heat of Passion.” For a song that should brim with passion – I mean, it has passion in its name! – it’s surprisingly lifeless. It’s the clear standout.īut much of the remainder of the album feels like been there, done that. Of course it’s absolutely ridiculous, but it’s a unique sound that burrows into your brain long after the disc stops spinning. It’s 99% attitude, with Keyshia threatening to slap around her man after stomping all over his couch. Keyshia’s never been afraid to roam down the road of ratchet, which is why “Rick James” works so well. Point of No Return, coincidentally Keyshia’s final album for Interscope Records, sadly limps into the latter.įirst, let’s talk about what works.
And on that journey, her catalog of hits tends to fall into one of two categories: the outstanding (Keyshia’s debut and sophomore albums, along with 2012’s Woman to Woman) or the underwhelming. Keyshia Cole has spent the last decade serving as the voice of the brokenhearted.
